Will the Real Kim & Velma Please Stand Up!

Hey All,

Are you enjoying Fall yet? I can't help but feel a bit like I'm missing out as the weather here in Wilmington, NC is still reaching 80 degrees! Every so often it teases us with 70 degrees in the morning and I get my scarf and denim jacket out only to  be tricked and hot again a few hours later! But that's OK as I knew it would be this way when I left the cold temps in the North in search of this Coastal Paradise in NC.

This blog post I wanted to write about something a bit different and explain the name origins of some of our furniture. If you are familiar with our Wilmington Wedding Rental Company you will notice that we name our furniture. Yes, we give them actual human names and refer and talk about them just like they were people (it makes me so happy to hear a bride or wedding planner also doing this)! Because to us, these pieces are treasures with personalities and it's only fair that they be treated as such! Have you ever wondered where the names come from? Do they just come to us from the tops of our heads or do they have more meaning...

We actually name our furniture after Family & Friends close to us. I am a believer in positive energy and putting good vibes out there and knew that there is nothing that brings more love and happiness than a wedding. It's part of the reason I got into the business- I wanted to do something that brings LOVE and was addicted to the high I got from it. And so we wanted to share that with those closest to us and have their names and good feelings put out into the universe so that they could feel the love too.

We'd like to tell you a little about our 2 most popular pieces and who they were named after. The Velma & The Kimberly are named after our moms! When we discovered these 2 pieces we knew they would be a hit and rented out most often, so how could we not name them after the 2 most important ladies that gave us life! Here are some favorite photos of our moms. They are not the greatest photos but ones that perfectly capture their personality and make us smile...

Vilma

Vilma

Meet Vilma- Martha's Mom (Yes that's right, Vilma with an 'i' not Velma with an 'e'). Naming our piece Velma was actually an inside joke :wink wink: between the two because people are always thinking that her name was spelled that way and often call her that. This mom has been so supportive of the business since day one. I especially love this photo because during one of her visits (she flew out to help us build our first set of benches when we had no idea what we were doing) we made a random trip to Home Depot and of course came back with lots of wood and plans for an unexpected project. We laughed the whole time as we crammed as much wood as we could into my Honda Fit and can't help but do the same every time we see this pic. I am humbled every time I see this as it also reminds me of how selfless and supportive she is!

Kim

Kim

Meet Kim- Brian's Mama. Although this pic is a bit blurry we think it captures her character perfectly as it's the look she gives you when she first sees you. If you have ever met Kim you would know that she has the brightest smile and personality there is. This Mom is always there to greet us with a smile and a hug and just exudes southern charm. She has the prettiest kitchen (where Brian proposed to Me) and knows how to make the perfect Southern food which warms our heart. She loves to feed us with treats and always has cakes, brownies, and fancy drinks on hand. We knew that the Buffet we found was a special one and would hold so many special and yummy treats for others and this is why we named it for her!

So next time you call to ask about renting our Velma Love-seat and Kimberly Buffet (together please!) and rave about how much you love these rentals, just know that you are also speaking nice things and reminding us about our mamas and we really like that ;)

Comment if you would like to know about our other furniture and the people they were named for!
